History

The Beta Rho Chapter was established as Zeta Omicron, a local engineering fraternity at The University of Toledo in 1921. In 1937, Zeta Omicron merged with Alpha Kappa Pi fraternity. In 1944, Alpha Kappa Pi merged with Alpha Sigma Phi National Fraternity and was designated the Beta Rho Chapter. Throughout its time at UT, the chapter has produced hundreds of campus and community leaders. The late 1990's was a difficult time for fraternities, in general, at UT. In particular, the Beta Rho Chapter went through some extremely difficult times that caused Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity to close the chapter in 2001.

In 2005 a group of men began to explore the possibility to expand the group back to UT's campus. Building a strong foundation, the Beta Rho Chapter was colonized with 26 men in May 2005. The re-established chapter would then continue to build a strong chapter, recruiting the best men that UT had to offer. The chapter recruited more men than any other fraternity at UT that year. Nearly seven months after the colonization of the Beta Rho colony, the Grand Council of Alpha Sigma Phi granted them permission to charter. The Beta Rho chapter set National Fraternity records for colonizing and re-chartering faster than all other Chapters in Alpha Sigma Phi's national history. With 50 men strong, the Beta Rho chapter re-chartered on April 8, 2006. Each semester saw the foundation strengthening and the chapter successfully building.

In April 2006, the fraternity was recognized, out of over 180 organization on UT's campus, as runner-up for the Outstanding Student Organization Award. Over the summer of 2006 at Alpha Sigma Phi Grand Chapter and National Leadership Conference, the Beta Rho Chapter was awarded the Pi Phi Pi Service and Philanthropy Award. This award is given to the top chapter in the nation for philanthropy and service. This award is one of three of Alpha Sigma Phi's most prestigious awards. Also at the conference, Beta Rho chapter was cited with twelve fraternity citations of excellence. At UT's Fall Greek Recognition night the fraternity was cited for having the highest: Recruitment, Campus Involvement, Community Service, Money Raised for Charity, and excellence in academic achievement. In Spring 2007, the Beta Rho Chapter had a solid membership and once again held a very strong recruitment. As of February 2007, this 80+ man chapter has succeeded in its influence & participation in many aspects of campus life, and they do it with integrity and confidence. This year is the Beta Rho Chapters 85th year of producing nearly 1500 of the best and brightest leaders at The University of Toledo.
